Abstract
Nowadays, the living world is clearly battling with many challenges from climate change. The carbon content emissions from Industries, Automobiles, Steam and Gas-fired power plants etc. has resulted negative environmental impact ranging from global warming, low precipitation, drying rivers, potential desert encroachments and so on. These have badly affected the quality life of humans, animals and aquatic life. In response to these problems, methods of reducing carbon content emissions become necessary. Therefore, research in grid connected inverter recently have become a very hot topic as a means of interfacing renewable energy sources (Carbon free energies: Photovoltaic system, Wind power, Fuel cell) to grid. With good interfacing, the renewable energy sources can solve not only the problem of increased demand of electrical power but also large share of carbon content emissions can be reduced dramatically. This paper presents the comparison between the Proportional Integral (PI) and proportional resonant (PR) current control of a grid connected inverter. The essence of this study is to investigate the controller type that gives the best current output with minimum harmonic distortions for effective integration of renewable energy to grid. The comparisons are justified with the aid of PLECS software, which is a powerful tool for power electronic designs and simulations.
